Welcome to the first article in a new series we will be writing called Real Estate Review. Our goal with this series is to educate our readers of real estate and investment opportunities that exist in some of Australia's fastest growing and developing areas. Last week in our article "Housing Affordability, How do we Compare?" we came to the conclusion that real estate is at dangerously low levels of affordability in many of Australia's capital cities. There are however many booming areas outside of our capitals that are still affordable. The population in these areas is increasing, infrastructure is being upgraded & improved and their economies are expanding. All of these factors are good signs for real estate investors. First we will take a look at Hervey Bay. |

Interest Rates on Hold for Now |

The official cash rate was left steady at 6.50%pa when the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) board met Tuesday for it's monthly meeting. While this comes as good news for home owners the relief may be short lived as analysts predict more rate rises. |

Housing Affordability, How Do We Compare? |

There is no doubt about it, many of Australia's capital cities are in the middle of a housing affordability crisis. If you compare the average family income to the median house value you will see that in Brisbane City real estate has increased 2.5 times since 1997 while the average Australian income has only increased 1.3 times. With housing affordability at dangerously low levels but a strong Australian dollar, we take a look at some offshore real estate options. |

With five consecutive interest rate increases by the Reserve Bank of Australia since the 2004 federal election a very common question on mortgage owners minds is have we reached the top of the cycle? With inflation still at the top of the reserve banks comfort zone and the economy still strong some analysts are saying further interest rate increases are likely. |
